The overarching learning need in this scenario is patient education on flu vaccinations. Providing efficient information to the patients and helping them make an informed decision while receiving the flu vaccine. The learning needs that need to be addressed in order to achieve these outcomes are assess what they patients know about the flu vaccination, identify the deficits of knowledge, plan to provide the adequate information about the vaccine, implement the education and answer any questions the patients may have and then evaluate the knowledge provided by ask them to repeat and/or explain their current knowledge based on the information provided. Some meaningful learning objectives I could develop to represent the learning need of patient education on flu vaccine are to create poster boards and flyers with pictures and graphs showing the information and data about the flu vaccine. Develop a questionnaire evaluating the knowledge provided and have them sign consent to receive the vaccination. Meanwhile, education is important because there are many people who are risk for flu. People who have certain medical conditions including asthma, diabetes, and chronic, lung disease. Also, pregnant women and people younger than 5 years especially those younger than 2, and people 65 years and older (The Alaska Nurse, 2018). Two learning outcomes for the patients receiving the flu vaccine are adequate patient education before receiving the vaccine and obtaining consent and receiving the flu vaccine after being provided the necessary education. Patient education is aimed to develop patient competence, confidence, and self-trust in their ability to carry out health behaviors consistent with their life plan. The concept of patient education has shifted from patient teaching to patient empowerment and shared decision making. Therapeutic patient education is important for nurses who work with patients with chronic diseases because it helps patients and their families acquire or maintain the skills to improve adherence and quality of life with a chronic disease by providing psychosocial support and information (Jung & Roh, 2021). The learning objectives that align with those outcomes are assessing what they patients know about the flu vaccination, identifying the deficits of knowledge, planning to provide the adequate information about the vaccine, implementing the education and answer any questions the patients may have and then evaluating the knowledge provided by ask them to repeat and/or explain their current knowledge based on the information provided. Evaluation of learners is an important aspect of learning. Both teachers and students benefit from it since it helps them recognize problems, cycles, and progress in teaching and learning. Grading students and using the comments to instruct them further can help them achieve their educational goals. Formative and Summative assessments are the typical evaluations techniques for learners to determine whether they understand the course and its concepts. Formative assessment involves continuous monitoring of students’ performance throughout in the specific units of the course and is essential in identifying areas of weakness and how to improve (William, 2019).
